How exactly is this new curriculum addressing that?
By ensuring that students, from an early age, are given the tools they need to have the strength to withhold consent on the one hand, and to respect lack of consent from another person on the other. Our girls, particularly, are now under undue pressure from boys to participate in unwanted sexual activities like sexting, and have a remarkably low resistance to that pressure. The curriculum creates strong young people who can stand up to unwanted sexual pressure from both adults and peers.
It's repulsive that critics are distorting the teaching of consent (as something to be given or refused out of one's free will, not under duress; and as something to be respected in others, not browbeaten away) as solely teaching of "consent to be abused".
