Letters were sent to the Judge presiding over Ben Levin to attempt to provide a context for sentencing.
Those who were not supportive of Ben Levin were encouraged to write by one or more organizations; including Real Women - their website is available for viewing about social issues. And those who supported Ben Levin were encouraged to write expressing their support.
As I recall, there were about 30 or 40 in support of Ben Levin - but, not from Kathleen Wynne, as one news article noted. Those who did not support Levin sent in about 130 or 140 letters.
At the hearing, Clayton Ruby, Levin's lawyer, wanted the non-supportive letters included, to illustrate, as you noted, the hostility to Levin. And, the Crown wanted the letters excluded.
I found both positions curious, so I sent the reporter of the story an email suggesting an explanation. In my view, Ruby's desire for inclusion of the condemnatory letters only lent support to the condemnation of Levin and this would not be in the Levin/Ruby interest.
And, the request by the Crown to exclude the condemnatory letters would only serve to reduce the judge's perception of the public hostility to Levin. I am still puzzled, because there was, as usual, no follow-up to explain that to readers.

By the way, Goldy has, for whatever reason, disappeared from the public scene. She is not on 'The Rebel' - the new Ezra Levant enterprise. And she is not keeping up this valuable information site. So, I don't know what's up with that.
